- Assistant Vice President for Risk Management & Compliance
Description
Binghamton University is seeking an Assistant Vice President for Risk Management and Compliance. The AVP will develop and maintain an integrated framework of both people and resources to identify, assess, and address risks across university operations. The individual will serve as a senior strategic leader responsible for overseeing and managing compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as university policies and procedures. Reporting to the President, they will provide guidance and oversight as well as hold development and implementation responsibility. This position ensures the university maintains a culture of compliance, ethical conduct, and risk awareness while fulfilling its academic and research mission. This position will work closely with the President's Office, General Counsel, Academic Affairs, Operations and a variety of offices across campus.
This individual will work with university leadership and internal stakeholders to formulate university policy, evaluate strategic, operational, reputational, and compliance risks and to advance effective mitigation strategies that strengthen institutional resilience. The role also presents risk analysis and compliance updates to senior leadership and participates in various campus committees to support governance oversight and helps ensure the University meets its regulatory and ethical responsibilities. This is an on-site (not remote) position.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in business or related field.
Minimum 10 years of experience in compliance and/or risk management including significant leadership roles, often within higher education or complex, regulated environments.
Knowledge of, or ability to quickly master, federal and state regulations impacting higher education.
Communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills; ethical judgment; and ability to foster collaboration across diverse academic and administrative units.
Capable of program and policy development, including drafting, reviewing, and aligning policies to regulatory and operational requirements.
Experience with risk identification, analysis and mitigation, internal controls and program design.
Experience overseeing ethics and compliance reporting and response systems, including hotline reporting, investigations and case management.
Demonstrated experience in crisis response and in developing business continuity plans.
