Description

PeaceHealth is seeking a Manager Insurance and Risk Financing Services (Hybrid) for a Full Time, 1.00 FTE, Day position. The general salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $43.16 – $64.75. The actual hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to, the job/position responsibilities, location, terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement, education, training, work experience, seniority, work performance, etc.

Assists System Director in developing, overseeing, and managing an effective, system-wide risk financing program which includes the Cayman captive, risk financing opportunities and the commercial and reinsurance markets. Helps identify and assess risks associated with financial, human, and physical assets. Suggests strategies and implements and administers programs to prevent, control and/or transfer risks through self-insurance, commercial insurance, contract provisions and/or other financial instruments. Suggests strategic and managerial opportunities for the employed provider insurance program, supervision of assigned staff, and operational management of commercial and self-insurance program. Collaborates with the System Director in the evaluation and implementation of creative future risk financing strategies.

Position Details:

  • Assures implementation of the PeaceHealth Risk Financing / Insurance Program. Identifies & assesses specific insurance or risk financing needs, recommends, and evaluates risk financing/insurance options and evaluates data related to insurance program performance.
  • Assists in the relationship with the Cayman’s captive, Clare Re, and acts as the backup domicile representative, which includes serving as the secondary contact with the domiciliary regulators. Helps to ensures compliance with all domicile regulation; develops business plans and pro forma financial statements; maintains the captive's financial and operational records; provides insurance, risk management, and underwriting expertise to the captive; provides quarterly and annual financial reports for the captive's owners and board of directors; coordinates the captive's board meetings and serves as the main point of contact for the captive's service providers.
  • Assists in the management of the marketing, negotiations, placement, and administration of insurance coverages. Acts as the primary insurance (property, casualty, financial/professional and workers compensation) resource for PeaceHealth. Manages contracts for brokers and risk management/risk finance consultants.
  • Provides strategic and managerial oversight for employed provider insurance program. Ensures the effective coordination and communication among internal stakeholders and providers. Actively manages and presents any underwriting appeals to the PLC. Manages underwriting and risk analyst staff.
  • Oversees the analysis and collection of data to ensure efficient, accurate information is communicated to brokers, insurers and actuaries in order to provide PeaceHealth with the most cost effective and effective risk-financing program. Participates in the management of the actuarial contract.
  • Consults and acts as a resource for risk minimization activities for communities and system administration. Develops, implements, and delivers educational and informational resources for the PeaceHealth communities related to insurance, general liability, property coverages, and related Risk Financing/Insurance.
  • Conducts risk analyses and coordination of risk finance/insurance strategies in the due diligence process for potential mergers and/or acquisitions.
  • Reviews contracts and leases to identify risks and eliminate or reduce risk exposure through insurance requirements and hold harmless clauses and indemnification language. Formulates and recommends insurance clauses where needed. Negotiates contract provisions as needed.
  • Helps coach and mentor staff; assists with budget preparation and management; and makes recommendations for standardization and workflow improvement.
  • Manages claims for commercially insured programs including property and business interruption, cyber and pollution claims.
  • Facilitates effective motor vehicle and property loss control programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Healthcare or relevant discipline OR  equivalent knowledge and skills obtained through a combination of education, training and experience.
  • Master's Degree Preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years Risk finance and insurance experience, preferably with a self-insured organization required.
  • Minimum of 2 year leadership experience required.
  • ARM or CUPC preferred.

  • Expert knowledge and skills in insurance and risk financing services.

  • Strong organizational skills which demonstrate the ability to set clear goals and objectives, develop quantifiable measurements as well as motivate and manage others. 
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently prioritize own workload to meet strict deadlines in an environment of multiple projects and changing priorities. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction, collect and analyze data, and maintain the confidentiality of information. 
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to lead through persuasion and competency. 
  • Ability to effectively work, collaborate and partner with all levels of the organization. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. 
  • Ability to travel ("10%).
