About the Job

The Insurance Verification Specialist primarily has the responsibility of ensuring complete and accurate insurance entry prior to patient appointments. This includes checking insurance eligibility, verifying accurate record information, managing email with new patient intake information and providing support to patients, providers, students and staff with insurance inquiries.

Essential functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

• Accurately enter insurance information into the electronic health record
• Verify insurance eligibility and ensure accurate entry prior to scheduled appointments
• Collect and enter insurance information from walk-in patients
• Review new patient registration information for accuracy and completeness; contact patients to clarify or collect missing information.
• Manage dental registration email
• Serve as the first point of contact for insurance questions, both internal and external.
• Respond to requests for information from patients, providers, students and staff in a timely, professional manner.
• Assess needs and provide training/presentation to staff regarding insurance plans, coverage, workflows, etc.
• Collaborate with the treatment plan coordinator team; provide backup as necessary
• Serve on Department, School and University-wide committees, as appropriate.
• Continue professional development through attendance of courses, workshops, seminars and other meetings.

Hourly Salary Range: $17.98-$23.85 USD/hour

Required Qualifications (please detail all the required qualifications on your application materials):

• High school diploma/GED and two years general accounts transaction experience. Training/education may be substituted for some of the years of experience.
• Two years of dental/medical insurance entry or patient accounting experience
• Demonstrated understanding of medical assistance and commercial insurance plans
• Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive or confidential information
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in dental health record software
• Experience working with diverse groups.
