Reporting to the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Financial Operations the Controller is responsible for managing all facets of University & Capital Accounting, Financial Reporting, Tax reporting & compliance, and internal controls at the university. This position works collaboratively with the academic and administrative units across campus to provide financial leadership, support and training, ensuring the accurate processing and reporting of all university transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. As a finance leader within the organization, this role supports the AVP of Financial Operations in managing the university’s $2.4 billion in total assets, net assets of $1.5 billion, revenues and expenses of approximately $700 million.
Oversees an administrative portfolio that includes the following areas and functions: University accounting, Capital budget and accounting, Financial Reporting, Tax Reporting Compliance (federal and state), and Internal Control Compliance.
Directs the preparation of all university financial statements ensuring they are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and any new prevailing accounting pronouncements. Manages the University’s annual audits, which includes the University financial statement audit, the Uniform Guidance audit, the WAMU audit & CPB Annual Financial Report, the NCAA agreed upon procedures audit and the Airlie Foundation financial statement audit. Additionally, manages any federal or state financial audits or site visit
Directs the preparation of all university tax returns (federal and state) and university business applications and annual filings for each state where the university is registered to do business.
Provides financial leadership, support, and training to the academic and administrative units across campus ensuring the accurate processing and reporting of all university transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Hire, on-board, trains and manages a team of accounting professionals. This includes providing regular feedback and coaching, establishing performance expectations, managing, and evaluating performance and encouraging professional development.
Directs the data governance for all financial data elements. Direct the development and implementation of and enhancements to the Financial Management System of the university to see that the operation runs as efficiently as possible. This also includes acting as the data custodian for access to the financial system.

This position supervises 14 full time positions.
Required Education and Experience:
8-10 years of relevant experience.
