Insurance Billing/Collections Assistant II - Medicine - Business Office

Performs follow-up insurance billing and collection activities on a minimum of 30 claims per day; makes collection calls, verifying accuracy and completeness of claims, contacts insurance companies and collection agencies in regard to expediting payments from various payers for physicianâ™s services.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Review eligibility responses and make any necessary insurance changes.
Work eligibility, registration, and/or referral errors and warnings.
Coordinate, obtain, and accurately document and communicate PCP referrals.
Accurately convert Generic Plans.
Accurately assign insurance plans or ascertain integrity of existing plan/fsc.
Contact Payer/ TPA by phone regarding eligibility.
Contact patients when necessary to discuss self-pay status,non-contracted plans, and financial options. Refer patients to financial counselors.
Access BJH system and various web sites for insurance/eligibility information.
Identify registration issues related to visits and invoices.
Supports clinical areas for questions regarding registration and plan selection.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Working knowledge of general office equipment and computers.
Possesses organization and communication skills while providing discretion with confidential information.
The ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, have knowledge of medical terminology, and is capable of working in a fast paced environment.
Possess excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification with two to three years of related experience in bookkeeping/accounting and/or medical collection setting.
$16.66 - $24.17 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
