Position Summary
This position leads work processes to ensure physician medical orders are correctly coded by determining the appropriate ICD-10 code for all new visits. Recognizes variance based on provider documentation and referring physician order received. Provides support to all Clinical Practice sites for billing duties to include accurate and timely processing of billing charges. Ensures thorough review and follow up of billing and collections, pre-arrival, patient and billing work queues in a fast paced outpatient therapy office. Coordinates and facilitates credentialing process. Performs specialized duties with minimal supervision. Faxing medical records as required.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Identifies, reviews, verifies, and completes all new patient visits that require an ICD-10 code via the Epic EHR system. Remains informed of all ICD-10 coding updates and changes.
- Works with Manager to provide updates of code changes to providers and staff.
- Works with referring physician offices to secure updated orders as required.
- Provides validation of referral record accuracy.
- Verifies accuracy and completeness of daily billing charges, monitors and finalizes outstanding issues held up in financial work queues while working to obtain maximum reimbursement for all site locations.Â
- Performs and assists with back end duties and charge review to include input, tracking, and verification of accurate and completed therapy billing charge transactions.Â
- Collects data for internal/external requests.
- Attends applicable meetings and report results.
- Leads to ensure follow-up and reconciliation of pre-arrival, patient, and financial work queues has transpired.
- Provides support and assistance with review of data provided from Epic.Â
- Performs varied follow up processes to ensure therapy visits are reviewed and completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Assists coordination and leads completion of training, programs, distribution of policy/procedure changes, and related administrative needs in conjunction with manager.
- Consistently follows up on delayed coding discrepancies and charge entry related issues still in process.
- Ensures maximum reimbursement with all payers and updates Epic EMR database.
- Attends applicable meetings and report results.
- Coordinates and facilitates all aspects of Medicare/WUPN/BJC/etc. credentialing of new and existing faculty/staff/fellows/residents.Â
- Other duties as assigned to include serving as back up support for Pre-Arrival and Accounts Receivable staff during peak times, vacations, and illnesses.
Working Conditions
Position works remotely, however on-site presence will be required at the O'Fallon, MO clinical practice for various tasks to include mail distribution, training of staff, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of clinical practice.Â
- Demonstrated organization and leadership.Â
- Must possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Â
- Proficient computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, and Epic EHR.
- Past credentialing experience preferred.Â
- Ability to handle confidential matters discretely as required.Â
- Experience in ICD-10 and CPT codes. Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience interacting with managed care plans, insurance companies and third party payers.
- Ability to work independently with a strong attention to detail. Precise follow up skills required.
- Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks, handle busy phones and be capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to handle stressful situations, and have excellent decision making skills.Â
- Use of general office machines required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
- Three to five years of previous billing or insurance experience.

Salary Range
$19.77 - $29.64 / Hourly
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
