Property Claims Specialist, Risk Management – UT System
MR 10 - The target salary for this role is $60,000 - $65,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience within the market range.

The Opportunity
The Property Claims Specialist will manage all property insurance claims and risk programs for The University of Tennessee. This role requires specialized knowledge of property claim processing within a broad portfolio of insurance policies. This position will partner with internal and external resources to gather relevant information to review and process claims, work with insurance carriers and third-party administrators (TPAs) to manage property claims and provide analytics, reports, and statistics on the performance and trends of these claims. The Property Claims Specialist will exercise confidentiality and independent judgment with operational and financial matters.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Property claims management, including intake, investigation, evaluation, and resolution of claims.
- The main point of contact for the affected campuses and partner with internal and external counsel, insurance carriers, and TPAs to resolve open property claims.
- Managing pending files and creating correspondence relating to claims.
- Maintain detailed claim status reports to provide to the Director of Risk Management, members of the Office of the General Counsel, and senior leadership as needed.
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to minimize potential losses.
- Management of Property Loss Control programs including the Water Intrusion Plan and the Critical Freezer Loss Control Program.
- Produce reports, providing statistics, and analytics of claim trends, financial impacts, and performance.
- Develop a comprehensive property claim reporting program to present to campuses to avoid noncompliance or denied property claims.
- Initiating subrogation against at-fault third parties.
- Responsible for the timely filing of FEMA/TEMA Claims, including mitigation grant proposals.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Requirements for Qualification
The successful candidate will hold Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have 2 years of experience in risk management, insurance, claims or relevant field.
The candidate will have:
- Ability to analyze complex situations, identify solutions, and make informed decisions to resolve property claims efficiently.
- Must possess excellent decision-making and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in MS Office, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel efficiently and effectively.
- Must possess excellent customer service skills.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Skill in negotiating claim settlements and advocating for the university's interests while maintaining professional relationships.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with various stakeholders, including insurers, adjusters, and university personnel.
- Commitment to timely reporting.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Ability and willingness to travel several times a month
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will hold Risk Management or Insurance designation (i.e. CRM, AIC, ARM, etc.).
