Primary responsibility to discuss financial options with patients having outstanding balances. Liaison between patients, WUSM clinical departments, affiliated hospital systems, and/or patientâ™s insurance carrier(s) to negotiate patient fiscal responsibilities. Provide patient education regarding all aspects of the Patient Financial Services processes from the time of charge entry to resolution. Analyze patient financial situation to determine if patient/guarantor has ability to pay. Recommends process improvements to improve communications with clinical departments and patients. Make quick thinking judgment decisions with little supervision. Ability to work under stressful situations on a daily basis and remain composed under pressure. Access to highly confidential financial information to determine patient/guarantor propensity to pay. Strict adherence to the attendance policy is essential for this position.
This position works remotely; however, occasional onsite presence will be required.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Performs financial option services to include:
Recommends financial counseling service for WU Physicians Billing Service and departments.
Serves as a liaison between patients, WUSM clinical department contacts, affiliated hospital systems, and/or patientâ™s insurance carrier(s) to negotiate patient fiscal responsibilities.
Negotiates financial obligation and/or financial assistance with patients with outstanding balances.
Provides patient education regarding all aspects of the Patient Financial Services processes for all clinical departments and all insurance payers from the time of charge entry to resolution.
Maximizes the collection of self-pay revenues through efficient processes and sound collection policy.
Handles high call volumes under extreme duress while providing exceptional customer service.
Processes patient correspondence.
Performs additional duties as assigned. Â
Working knowledge of computers, general office equipment, telephone consoles, medical terminology, collection techniques and communication skills that involves dealing with confidential information.
High school diploma or equivalent high school certification.
Three to five years of previous billing or insurance experience.
$19.19 - $28.78 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
