GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The purpose of the Internal Audit position is to assist the Director in executing the functions of the Internal Audit Department. The Department is an independent appraisal activity established within the University to examine and evaluate Elon’s management systems. University administration has the primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining a sufficient system of internal controls.  Internal Audit assists University administration in the effective discharge of its responsibilities by furnishing evaluations of departmental activities, recommendations for improvements in systems and procedures, and other information designed to promote effective controls. Meaningful internal auditing requires cooperation among the Internal Audit Office, college administration, and the auditee.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES:

The Auditor must be meticulous and analytical, with deep knowledge of auditing practices and exhibit excellent judgement. The expectation is to be reliable, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as expertise in financial controls, IT controls, risk management and compliance. Projects might include assurance, consulting, investigative, and other engagements as assigned. Audits may include IT general control audits, application audits, information security audits, compliance/operational/financial audits, and other projects.

Must have the ability to:

• Plan and oversee audits
• Examine and evaluate the controls, policies and procedures, and systems in place to safeguard university assets.
• Evaluate the reliability and integrity of information, and the efficient and effective use of resources.
• Review compliance with policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
• Review team members’ work for accuracy and compliance
• Perform effective risk and control assessments
• Complete audits on time and submit reports to the audit director
• Present audit findings and find ways to increase compliance, efficiency and control

Must have:

• In-depth understanding of auditing and control practices
• Updated knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
• Proficient in use of office and exposure to data analytics software
• Good Understanding of IT controls
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills
• Attention to detail
• Organizational and leadership abilities
• Integrity and reliability

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Proven experience as an auditor (at least 3 years increasing responsibilities)
• BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance or IT; master’s degree and professional certification (e.g. CPA, CIA,CISA,CFE) are pluses
