Overview:
This position provides administrative post award management and financial services related to external grants at the university. The grants specialist and financial associate will be required to contribute technical accounting, budgeting, compliance with external regulations and contractual obligations including completion of all reporting associated with external grants. In addition to responsibilities in the grants area, this position will also contribute to other areas of accounting, financial analysis and reconciliations initially and generally within the accounting and payroll department as a whole as time progresses. This position must exercise independent judgment, be flexible and able to anticipate changes in work responsibilities within the accounting and payroll department and to adapt to fulfill the demands of its operations.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, accounting, or finance (or equivalent combination of education and work experience)
- 5-7 years of experience with federal, state, and private grants post award management including record-keeping, regulatory adherence, and various financial reporting
- Experience working with non-financial personnel and having the ability to act as the financial advisor to them as it relates to grants management
- Experience in higher education or non-profit/government organization
- Experience in applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Federal Draw-downs, Massachusetts Vendor Web and invoicing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs, and experience with PeopleSoft or other Financial Systems
- Demonstrated ability to work under the pressure of hard deadlines and competing priorities.
- Superior written and oral communication skills.

Potential for Permanent Hybrid/Remote Work: The Accounting and Payroll department is part of a project to move some administrative functions to a permanent remote/hybrid work model, including this position. The permanent remote/hybrid work model project is currently in Phase One. During this phase detailed plans and policies will be developed, including the identification and provision of shared, reservable space for the occasional on-campus work that members of department, including this position, may need to do. Applicants should be aware the position will be expected to be remote and, in the office, periodically and during times of demand. The university reserves the right to set the conditions and location of the employment, including changing to a more traditional in-house work model if that is necessary to effectively meet the mission of the university and responsibilities of this position.
Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 5-10 pounds.
