University Risk Management.
- Lead the management and delivery of the University's risk management approach in alignment with the University's strategic vision and objectives and, where appropriate, in accordance with applicable ERM principles.
- Produce and update the University's Risk Policy and Risk Management Framework to enable units to manage their risks and support effective decision making and prioritization; review the risk management framework annually, gathering and taking into account feedback from stakeholders in order to continually improve the effectiveness of the framework.
- Create and chair a University-wide "Risk Committee," "Risk Council" or similar committee to consider and address University-wide risk management issues.
- Identify, manage and monitor areas of risk and need for additional or new types of coverage or alternative risk management and mitigation techniques, strategies and measures.
- Conduct periodic risk prevention audits.
- Conduct ad hoc reviews of non-conforming vendor/third party insurance coverages and limits.
- Participate in the development of new programs, initiatives, and incentives to improve workplace safety and designed to reduce or manage liability for the University.
- Develop and administer risk financing techniques so that adequate resources exist to cover losses that do occur.
- Build University support and visibility for risk management and loss control programs and initiatives and obtain stakeholder buy-in on program goals and objectives.
- Assist with development and maintenance of appropriate contractual language to be included in all agreements with parties outside of the institution, including insurance requirements, hold harmless and indemnity agreements as assigned by the Vice President for Legal Affairs.
Insurance and Claims.
- Procure, maintain, manage and renew all insurance policies.
- Collect and prepare information and recommendations for annual insurance renewal meeting.
- Serve as primary liaison for insurance brokers.
- Manage property, casualty and other insurance claims.
- Understand Workers' Compensation principles and have the ability to participate in structuring and implementing appropriate practices.
- Maintain "subject matter" knowledge and expertise for all policies including coverage and deductibles.
- Oversee the foreign travel insurance program and insurance programs for professional schools.
- Coordinate all notifications of loss to insurance carriers.
- Oversee reimbursement process with insurance carriers to ensure payment on claims.
- Facilitate the reconciliation of claims, replacement costs, bills and deductibles.
- Serve as liaison with and disseminate information from MUSIC and serve on Committees as assigned.
- Oversee the processing of requests for certificate of insurances, evidences of property, and additional interest language.
Emergency Management and Special Projects.
- Key member of team managing emergency management and response efforts.
- Key member of business continuity planning team.
- Key member of Covid-19 response team and post-pandemic planning.
- Serve as project manager or contributing member on special projects when assigned.

- Bachelor's degree in a business, actuarial or related discipline appropriate to the risk management profession.
- Five years of direct experience in insurance/risk management preferably in higher education.
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent business and risk management analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in the current technological environment.
- Familiar with the deployment of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) principles in a complex organization.
