The University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites applications for the position of Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration (VCFA). Serving as the chief financial officer, the VCFA is responsible for the oversight and management of the university’s administrative and financial functions. The VCFA reports directly to the Chancellor and manages a $132 million annual budget and over 200 staff encompassing business services, purchasing, HR, facilities, project management, construction, and IT.

The Institution The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP), a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina System, is a regional comprehensive master’s-level university with a spirited community of more than 8,300 students and nearly 900 faculty and staff. UNCP is an historically minority-serving institution (HMSI), a Native American-Serving Nontribal Institution (NASNTI), and the only state-designated historically American Indian university in North Carolina. The university is comprised of four degree-granting colleges and schools: the College of Arts and Sciences; the College of Health Sciences, which includes the McKenzie-Elliott School of Nursing; the Thomas School of Business; and the School of Education. UNC Pembroke is a center of education, arts, and culture for southeastern North Carolina, enriching the lives of students and community members alike. UNCP is located in the small town of Pembroke in the coastal plains of southeastern North Carolina: home of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. Pembroke is convenient to most metro areas in North Carolina and nearby states, coastal beaches, and the famous golf courses of Pinehurst. Located 12 miles away at the crossroads of two major interstates is the county seat of Lumberton, a city of approximately 22,000 and a hub of shopping, banking, health care and government operations.
The new VCFA will join UNCP in a vitally important leadership role at an especially exciting time of opportunity. With continued strong growth in enrollment academic programs, significant capital improvement projects underway, and a generous annual infusion of state appropriations, UNCP is well positioned for future success.
The successful candidate must have a record of effective strategic and operational leadership, including a minimum of five (5) years in senior leadership positions with increasing responsibility for finance and strategic resource management. The candidate must have impeccable integrity and a proven record of fiduciary responsibility, leadership, and administration in a complex organization. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, finance, economics, accounting, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required.
Preferred qualifications include: relevant experience in public higher education or a government entity (experience in other industries should be equivalent/transferable); successful oversight of complex facilities operations and large capital projects; record of success improving the management and effectiveness of operations, business processes, and customer service; an MBA or equivalent advanced degree from an accredited institution; a CPA or solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles; and knowledge of North Carolina government or UNC System policies, procedures, and operating guidelines.
