Essential Functions:
POSITION SUMMARY: The position is responsible for the processing of all correspondence related to new and/or existing bankruptcies. Timely processing of mail is required due to legal/financial implications. The position will review all invoices to make sure that all third party, federal, state payers have been billed. The position will notify the collection agencies of any bankruptcy discharge notices and have the collection agency cease all collection efforts. Keys all appropriate write offs. The position also provider relief for the receptionist as requested. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Processes bankruptcy discharge notices.
- Opens mail related to bankruptcies and sorts/date stamps mail.
- Suppresses statement generation for new bankruptcy discharge notices.
- Reviews all invoices related to the bankruptcy discharge notice to ensure they been billed to insurance if on the patient account.
- Reviews all invoices related to the bankruptcy discharge notice that are at a collection agency. Proper notification is sent to the collection agency. The collection agency write offs are reversed.
- Writes off invoices to the Bankruptcy Paycode.
- Provides relief/coverage for the receptionist on as needed basis.
- Other duties as assigned by the department manager and/or supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
Equivalent of High School diploma with 2 to 3 years of related experience in bookkeeping/accounting and/or medical collection setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in customer service and patient account receivables
- Experience and background in patient collections and/or Epic applications
- Display excellent communication skills
- Good working understanding of medical billing, insurance Explanation of Benefits, payment posting, and insurance plans
- Superior goal accomplishment skills, ability to organize time, work independently, and handle confidential material required
- Ability to set up payment arrangements, work out settlement offers and collect payment in full on outstanding patient balances
- Demonstration of past experience in successful patient collections and bankruptcies
- Customer services skills in a healthcare environment
- Superior goal accomplishment skills
- Medical background in billing insurance and patient accounts

This position is in the Department of WU Physicians Billing Service. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
Job Type/Schedule:
This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. The hours of this position are Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM and Friday 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
Salary Range:
The hiring range for this position is $15.85 - $19.43 per hour.
