The Executive Director of Compliance will build and design an effective oversight compliance function that supports compliance across the UM System with a focus on building compliance into workflows, effective education, training and policy development, and a service orientation towards all constituents.
Essential Functions (top five to seven critical functions):
Work to ensure the organization is conducting business in full compliance with state, national and international laws and regulations that pertain to higher education institutions with academic medical centers and a land-grant, outreach mission in collaboration with the Chief Audit and Compliance Officer and other compliance professionals across the UM System.
Establish the elements of an effective compliance program, including a code of conduct/standards, education and training, policy management, investigations, continuous risk assessment, and consistent enforcement and disciplinary standards in collaboration with other functions throughout the System.
Ability to design and conduct risk assessment and translate this to a compliance plan that supports broad/long term strategic plans and objectives, in collaboration with the Chief Audit and Compliance Officer and Executive Director, Internal Audit.
Continuous development and engagement of relationships across all four universities, the academic medical center, and UM System with senior leaders and compliance professionals.
Assists with creation of criteria to evaluate culture, impact of the compliance program on reduction of issues, and engagement of employees and leaders throughout the system.
Guides the day-to- day activities of the Compliance Team, including coaching and mentoring, team development and performance management.
Serve as a subject matter expert and staff for the UM System Executive Audit and Compliance Committee.

A bachelor's degree in a related field
At least 5-10 years of broad, progressively responsible leadership in managing a compliance function with a track record of continuous improvement; must be able to plan, develop and implement complex strategic goals and program initiatives that require the effective management of resources over short- and long-time frames
Ability to influence at the executive level and drive change; demonstrated ability to analyze complex issues and develop effective problem-resolution strategies.
Ability to quickly assess, understand, and address knowledge of the University of Missouri System mission, processes, organization, culture and complex relationships with internal and external entities; must be able to analyze and prioritize institutional challenges.
Ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships to develop broad/long term compliance plans and objectives that will apply and be managed by all university entities; demonstrable experience in effectively communicating complex compliance information orally, in writing, via presentations, and other methodologies to diverse audiences.
Experience and subject matter expertise in higher education compliance, especially in the areas of healthcare and research.
Master’s degree preferred
Experiences with these roles in a higher education or healthcare setting strongly preferred.
