Responsible for the consistent application and Grant and Foundation accounting polices and procedures across the CHI Enterprise. This includes ensuring that appropriate policies, procedures and controls are in place to meet Federal reporting requirements and accounting requirements, maintaining an update to date inventory of grant awards received, working with pre-award process, and managing the implementation of the Lawson grant module from the accounting/reporting requirements. Oversight and operational functional lead utilizing CHI Connect related tools including accounts payable, payroll, treasury and tax. This position will also ensure that Foundation activity is properly accounted for in accordance with generally accepted accounting policies. This position will serve as a resource for grant accounting protocols, for MBOs as well as the CHI National Entities such as CIRI. The position will have regular communication with CHI Senior Leaders in the markets and at the National Office.

Lead and supervise a staff of 10 to 15 professional for Foundation accounting and financial reporting, and Grants both Federal, Research, and Private grants.
Reports to the CHI Enterprise VP of Financial Reporting and Accounting
Essential Key Job Responsibilities:
Detailed working knowledge of GAAP which includes interpretation and implementation, with a focus on not-for-profit accounting.
Ability to research and implement new accounting pronouncements. Ability to prepare detailed and concise accounting position white-papers for accounting interpretation and application within CHI, and communication with CHI external independent auditors.
Detailed knowledge and experience with accounting and auditing for all Federal Awards and coordination of the CHI Consolidated Single Audit (fka A133). Knowledge of specific Single Audit compliance requirements which span multiple programs across the CHI Enterprise. Ability to provide education to MBOs related to all Single Audit requirements.
Utilize the Lawson ERP system for all Enterprise wide Grant and Foundation Accounting activities. Includes all functional modules that interface to the general ledger including accounts payable, payroll, and supply chain activities.
Coordinate and support stand-alone audit requirements of CHI Foundation Entities
Working knowledge of tax reporting requirements of Foundation activity which support the annual completion of Form 990 for each Foundation entity.
Lead and development of CHI policies related to grant accounting activities across the Enterprise.
Direct and lead the accounting close process on Enterprise wide Foundation companies. Review and prepare internal financial statement for Foundation leaders in accordance with GAAP.
Participate and support Foundation Board Meetings with regards to communication of current financial position and results from operations.
Accounting and reporting of fund details and consistent classification of donor restricted funds.
Coordinate and lead financial information for annual budget process and long-range financial plan process.
Prepare Enterprise policies and procedures to develop a best in class processes and internal control environment.
Provide best in class financial statements and information for decision making. Prepare budget to actual variance reports and assists in problem solving and decision making related to support the operational and financial needs of the Foundations.
Support Income Tax preparation of the Form 990 with the CHI National tax team. Collection and input of Foundation related tax information and data into the CHI National tax collection tool.
Managerial and Communication Capabilities:
Manage, supervise and develop a staff of at least ten finance and accounting professionals.
Ability to interact with all levels of Senior Management, including MBO Foundation Leaders and CHI National Leaders.
Ability to lead discussions on financial results with Foundation and Board leaders.
Past success in process improvement related to the financial close process, financial reporting and managerial reporting.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, minimum 7 years’ experience.
CPA, Active License
7 Years Finance and Accounting with a strong preference for Not for Profit experience
Strong Finance and Accounting experience
Management and supervisory experience with a strong sense of mentoring and staff development.
Requires an excellent working knowledge of both accounting and finance with a strong technical base in generally accepted accounting principles.
Required general business sense and an ability to view situations from different perspectives.
Ability to work with staff, managers and Senior Leader across all levels of the Enterprise
