Elon University is currently accepting applications for a Chief of Police and Director of Campus Safety. Reporting to the Vice President for Business, Finance and Technology, the Chief of Police and Director of Campus Safety (Chief) will manage the functional, administrative, personnel and financial responsibilities for a 24 hour/365 days a year Campus Police Department. The Chief is responsible for a unit which includes Elon’s Campus Police Department and has 22 sworn officers. This unit is a NC certified unit under statute G.S. 74-G. Additionally, the Chief will provide leadership for the following areas: campus safety and fire programs, emergency response, security escorts, property protection programs, parking and parking enforcement. The Department of Campus Safety and Police, includes 42 full-time and 1 part-time staff person.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) with 10 years of experience with federal, state, municipal or university police with preference given to applicants who have previous university police experience. The ability to demonstrate the highest degree of judgment and community engagement with multiple constituencies is a requirement. The Chief must have or be able to quickly obtain NC certification as a law enforcement officer.
