This position requires an extensive knowledge of all aspects of the patient financial process from point of registration to account balance resolution. The position requires answering incoming calls by telephone to collect outstanding balances, resolving insurance issues, verify insurance, edit demographic and insurance information, communicate with clinical departments, communicate and provide patient education.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist patients with billing issues through active listening skills and clear communication while maintaining a calm demeanor.
Communicate and provide education to patients on all insurance plans-Commercial, Managed Care, Government, Special Billing, Work Release, Homeless, Workers Compensation, and Risk Management, etc.
Communicate with clinical departments, or Service Quality department regarding patient care inquiries or disputes.
Negotiate acceptable payment arrangements within department guidelines.
Establish a clear understanding of the patient’s account and responsibility for payment.
Determine guarantor’s ability to pay.
Collect payment in full, arrange payment plans, and settlement of account arrangements.
Prescreen patients for possible Financial Assistance/Charity.
Update insurance and demographic information on all associated financial classes and verify eligibility as needed.
Explain insurance payments, facilitate patient contact with insurance companies to explain benefits and/or appeal for payment.
Review and reallocate payments on patients’ accounts when applicable.
Open, distribute and process patient correspondence.
May fill in and/or assist other patient services unit employees and other duties as assigned by the Patient Services supervisor. Some face-to-face contact with patients.
Epic system experience is preferred.
Previous medical debt collection experience is preferred.
Working knowledge of medical coding and terminology.
2 years of college or business school preferred.
Experience in billing or insurance with a minimum of 18 months in customer service and patient accounts receivables in a medical setting.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills .
Superior customer service skills as well as the willingness and the ability to function as part of a dynamic team.
Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
Equivalent of High School diploma with 3 to 5 years of previous billing or insurance experience required.
This position is with the WU Physician Billing Services.� This position is for the Medical School Campus.

This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Ability to work Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM and Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Hours are non-negotiable. Regular and reliable attendance is expected.

The hiring range for this position is $18.81 - $23.52 per hour.
