This position assists the Sr. Associate Controller in effecting the College’s internal controls, preparation of tax filings, analysis of financial information and trends, assembly of internal and external financial statements and other reports and preparation for the year-end audit. In addition, this position is responsible for restricted accounting, including monitoring compliance with requirements of federal award programs and other restricted funds.
Monitors the effectiveness of the College’s internal control by identifying, documenting and evaluating cost-effective enhancements to internal controls over the integrity of financial reporting, safeguarding of assets, and
Lead the financial compliance monitoring committee, which reviews all finance activities to ensure financial processes are meeting compliance regulations. Drafts GAP analysis and action plan for implementation when enhancements are required.
Complete the year-end processes, reconciliations and reviews as well as development of year-end financial statements and disclosures.
Coordinate the preparation and test work for the College’s audits: annual financials, single audit (A-133), 403(b) audit and NCAA audit.
Prepare the College’s tax filings (990, 990T, 36 State Unrelated Business Income Tax returns).
Oversight of other College tax filings (1099, 1042S, 1098T, W2, periodic payroll tax deposit’s, 941, FUTA, SUI, Sales Tax, Fuel Tax, Unclaimed Funds etc.).
Performs pre- and post- award administration of federal and state grant programs, including safeguarding and disbursement of funds, and submission of required
Ensures appropriate accounting of restricted funds through the application of relevant GAAP, consideration of donor-imposed restrictions and maintenance of original donor
Provides support to Sr. Associate Controller and AVP of Finance with Board of Trustee presentations to the Finance and Audit Committee.
Preform NYS segregated annuity filings for College CGAs.
Knowledge of IT system and process flows. Experience in implementing new systems and/or system enhancements.
Prepares financial trends and analyses, account reconciliations, and policy or procedure improvements.
Assist the Sr. Associate Controller in the supervision of operational areas, including Bursar, Payroll and Accounts Payable. Supervise and mentor Finance Department Interns (Le Moyne Accounting Students).
Other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required. Master’s Degree is preferred.
Professional certification (e.g. CPA, CIA) is preferred.
A minimum of 6 years of related work or audit experience involving increasing levels of responsibility and management of personnel, preferably in a college or university setting; experience should also include a strong familiarity with payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant, and tax procedures, laws and regulations
Proficiency in the use of computerized general ledger/payroll or ERP systems and Microsoft Office programs, notably Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SQL Server; experience with Datatel, Onbase, BaseCamp and Entrinsik Informer software packages a plus
Thorough understanding of GAAP, GAAS, tax regulations and business practices relevant to a private college or other complex not-for-profit organization
Knowledge of employee benefit plan operations and design
Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a wide range of campus constituencies
