Northwestern College is seeking a vice president for finance and operations beginning Jan. 1, 2020, who is responsible for all financial matters—including budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting and risk management— and who leads the finance department to drive institutional results. The vice president is ultimately responsible for the administration and coordination of the following program areas:
Mailroom & printing offices
The vice president will be appointed by and report directly to the president and serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet. The VPFO will also staff the Board of Trustees Finance Committee, with the primary objective of stewarding the financial and other resources of Northwestern College in the fulfillment of its mission, vision and strategic initiatives.
The successful candidate should possess the following qualities:
Bachelor’s degree (preference for candidates who possess a CPA and/or MBA)
Five to ten years of successful experience in senior leadership positions in finance and operations
Prior experience at a college, university or not-for-profit organization in a similar position preferred
Experience with investment and retirement plan management as well as benefit plan management
Knowledge of and a strong commitment to the distinctively Christian mission of Northwestern
Ability to select, train, supervise, inspire and lead teams of people
An ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and peers within the college leadership and with external vendors at the individual and organizational level
Strong organizational skills and problem-solving abilities
Ability to function as a liaison between architects & contractors on building projects to make sure college interests are represented, good working relationships are maintained, and construction is completed on time and on budget
Personal qualities associated with successful senior leaders, including integrity, excellent oral and written communication skills, sound judgment, initiative, attitude and personality
