Departmental Overview In 'Risk Services', we believe everyone is a risk manager, and our job is to provide the service and support you need to succeed in that role. As part of its mission, the Office of Risk Services also handles:
Interprets insurance and indemnification provisions for contracts, agreements, leases, etc. to ensure campus is not assuming third party liability for which it has no insurance coverage.
Provide training on insurance and indemnification to participants in the contract vetting process.
Prepares certificates of insurance.
Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes areas of potential loss. Recommends appropriate type and level of loss protection to be implemented.
Provide insurance, risk, and loss prevention training to the campus community.
Oversee the Auto Liability Self-Insurance Program
Liaises with third parties and claimants to resolve claims in accordance with campus guidelines in a timely manner as needed.
Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes areas of potential loss and recommends appropriate type and level of loss protection to be implemented.
Work directly with the Third Party Claims Administrator Fields to ensure accurate and timely review of claims.
Provide Litigation Support to the Campus Community
Serve as the client representative at mediations, arbitrations, small claims court and other legal proceedings
In consultation with campus counsel, issues litigation holds
Responsible for providing research into loss history of General Liability litigated claims and oversight of document collection activities on behalf of outside hired counsel.
Supports the Campus Risk Manager with Delegations of Authority and Form 700 letters.
In consultation with the Campus Risk Manager, maintain all hard and electronic records of campus delegations, redelegations and updates the website with searchable copies of the letters.
Provides incoming Senior Managers and Designated Officials with a list of current delegations for their position advising which authority has been delegated, the extent of the authority, and whether or not the authority can be redelegated.
Generate assuming and leaving office letters initiating the 30-day countdown that informs Designated Officials of their requirement to file a Form 700 Statement of Economic Interests with UC Office of the President.
Backup preparer for department Financial Journal entries
Maintain and update the Risk Services website
Reviews requests for insurance waivers.
Participates on campus committees representing Risk Services.
Fields questions from campus.
Serves as a backup for office functions primarily assigned to other ERM analysts (e.g. loss prevention, travel support, emergency response, insurance claims - general liability and property damage)
Thorough knowledge in the following areas: risk management; insurance; forecasting; knowledge of common campus-specific computer application programs; knowledge of campus processes and procedures; understanding of campus rules and regulations.
Requires interpersonal, service oriented, active listening and critical thinking skills.
Requires ability to present complex risk findings and make recommendations in a clear concise manner both in writing and verbally.
Possesses solid knowledge of legal industry standards in research, data collection, analysis techniques and creation of legal documentation.
Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Paralegal education, qualifications and certification as outlined by The State Bar of California, Business and Professions Code, Section 6450.
Continuing Legal Education as required by The State Bar of California.
Salary & Benefits The salary range for this position is $75,000.00 to $80,000.00, commensurate with experience.
