Oglethorpe University seeks an energetic and resourceful professional with proven leadership experience to become our next Vice President for Business & Finance, Chief Financial Officer. Reporting to the President, the VP for Business and Finance, CFO will serve on the President's senior administrative team and oversee the offices of Business, Event Services, Human Resources, IT Services, and Facilities Management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Actively manage and conduct short- and long-term planning for effective use of the physical and fiscal resources of the university. Areas of activity to meet these responsibilities include strategic planning and budgeting, financial management (including financial modeling for future years), institutional purchasing, contract administration, management of non-academic personnel management including compensation and benefits, risk management, maintenance and development of the physical plant, and other related areas.
Principle advisor to the President for the formulation and control of budgets, cash flow, investments, etc. for the continuing financial health of the institution.
Exercise general oversight of the business office function to insure the timeliness and accuracy of financial record-keeping and reports and that the office maintains high customer service standards.
Responsible for general oversight of annual external audit process and its successful conclusion.
Invest and monitor results on university’s endowment, including ensuring these restricted resources are stewarded and invested properly for intergenerational equity.
Manage, as part of the university’s capital plan, all renovations and new construction, ensuring the projects have sufficient funding and are completed on-time and on-budget.
The successful candidate will have attained at least a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; a Master’s degree in a related field, such as MBA, Master of Accountancy, CPA or other appropriate professional certification strongly preferred. Seeking individuals who display progressively complex experience, preferably in an academic environment, leading fiscal and other administrative services; demonstrates a thorough knowledge of, and leadership in, higher education administration; possesses a proven ability to plan budgets, allocate resources, manage a physical plant to include construction operations, and manage business and financial services; display a thorough understanding of all major divisions that comprise, and issues that confront, a private institution of higher education; have a proven record of building and sustaining relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
Other Knowledge and Abilities: Possess a strong, positive and highly professional image; articulate, persuasive, and able to build confidence with the leadership team and staff; ability to command respect through business and financial acumen; unquestionable integrity, credibility and character who has demonstrated high moral and ethical behavior; demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to motivate others to get time pressured tasks completed in an accurate and timely manner; possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong goal-orientation combined with high intellect as well as the ability to effectively analyze situations and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously; flexible and adaptable personality capable of working in a relatively unstructured environment.
Position supervises the: Controller, Human Resources Director, Chief Information Officer, Director of Facilities and Planning, and Special Events Director.
