Florida Atlantic University's Office of the President is seeking an Inspector General, Boca Raton, FL.
The Inspector General reports directly to the president with periodic disclosure of activities to the Audit and Compliance Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Inspector General directs and coordinates a diversified and complex internal auditing program including implementation of an annual work plan. Annual Work Plans should be diverse and represent those areas within the organization that could demonstrate the greatest financial and/or reputational risk. This work plan is developed in consultation with the President and Chair of the Board of Trustees Audit and Compliance Committee.
The Inspector General must be abreast of and has a keen sense of national and international trends related to what issues could result in the greatest financial and/or reputational risk to the university. Those concerns may or may not fall within the expertise of the Office of the Inspector General. In those instances, the Inspector General will consult with and/or hire external reviewers who have the knowledge expertise to ensure that the University is well protected in the areas of greatest risk.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Reviews and evaluates internal controls and University regulations, rules, policies, and state statutes relating to the programs and operations to ensure fiscal accountability, compliance with regulations, rules and polices and develops follow-up program for audit recommendations.
Evaluates findings and explores what optimal recommendations might be suggested for optimal results. This may include collaborating with other areas within the university to determine the root cause of a finding beyond the operational compliance with a policy (i.e. system-wide deficiencies, outdated practices, and the like).
Communicates the results of all University internal audits and informs the President and Board of Trustees (Audit and Compliance Committee) of significant frauds, abuses, and deficiencies relating to programs and operations within the University.
Ensures the accuracy, efficiency and effectiveness of budgeting, accounting, financial and operating policies, procedures and systems of all areas of the University and ensures that operations follow best practices applicable to the particular area/industry.
Responsible for receipt of complaints and coordinates all activities required by the Whistle-blower's Act and considers complaints which did not meet the criteria for an investigation under the Act as deemed appropriate.
Determines the overall effectiveness of operations and compliance with existing statutes, rules and regulations. Recommends corrective action and improvements.
Ensures effective coordination and cooperation between the Office of the Auditor General, Federal and external auditors, and other governmental bodies. Provides consultation management services for system development and installation.
Preforms administrative duties such as filing of documents, physically obtaining information files from auditees, and performing inventories.
A Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization from an accredited institution and six years of appropriate experience; or a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization from an accredited institution and eight years of appropriate experience required.
Must be a Certified Public Accountant or possess a Certified Internal Auditor certificate.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to success in this position.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
Must also have excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills.
