The Associate Director of Business Services assumes a leadership and management role within the department that assists in providing an environment for residential students and guests that is safe, friendly and fiscally sound. Primary responsibilities of the position include: general administration of student transition processes; coordinating and monitoring purchasing processes; overseeing daily reconciliation processes; supervision of the housing assignments team and oversight of assignments processes; serve as a primary departmental liaison to university departments such as student accounts, purchasing, registrar, controller’s office, cashier’s office, auxiliary services and financial aid. This position reports directly to the Director of Housing and Residence Life. The Associate Director for Business Services oversees multiple business components in a department that has an operating budget exceeding $30 million. The position enters data and maintains a 10 Year Housing Projection spreadsheet that helps our department fulfill all the requirements expected by the Certificates of Participation to maintain a minimum Debt Service Coverage Ratio of 1.10 for all four funds in our housing program. Works closely with the Sr. Business Officer of Student Affairs to analyze the data as required. Areas of responsibility include budget management, financial planning, accounting, student payroll, personnel administration, and technology asset inventory. This position provides leadership and direction in the development of processes, procedures, and systems that contribute to successful business operations in a comprehensive housing program that has 4,143 beds. Work regularly involves the monitoring of the quality and quantity of the business functions and service delivery efforts. This position is responsible for researching, analyzing, and addressing problems that can have great financial impact on our Housing Operation. We are a self-supporting auxiliary that must maintain an overall occupancy of 95% for a budget year. This position must instill a customer service philosophy with all employees supervised.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration, or related business area and two years of administrative management or business management experience or equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Must be computer literate and proficient; Must possess strong customer service skills; Must be proficient in the utilization of multiple Microsoft programs; Must be knowledgeable of accounting and budget procedures; Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; Must be able to understand policies and procedures well enough to articulate them clearly and accurately; Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; Must be able to collaborate with campus colleagues on business related issues and procedures;
Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Effective verbal and written communication skills; The ability to examine and interpret multiple data sets and develop schedules and plans to meet deadlines and reach desired results; Ability to prepare, maintain, and interpret reports and records; Understanding of database software packages and infrastructure is essential; Banner experience is a plus; Ability to understand issues, identify problems, and plan appropriate courses of action.
