The Assistant Director is a key member of the office of Risk Management (ORM) team, with primary responsibility for managing and executing key components of a comprehensive Risk Management program for the University. The role requires specialized knowledge of insurance coverages and markets and a solid understanding and application of industry concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations and technology. Monitor and evaluate the university's business risk insurance portfolio, construction insurances programs, contractual risk transfer programs and claims management. The position supports all departmental initiatives/projects and makes recommendations for improved strategies and processes to the Director. The position will engage and interface with University departments/offices at all levels to provide guidance on risk management matters (insurance, claims, contracts, internal procedures, etc.) relative to their operations. The Assistant Director is expected to exercise a high degree of independent judgement especially in operational and financial matters.
A bachelor's degree and minimum 3-5 years of experience in insurance/risk management required.
Insurance or Risk Management related certification or credential is highly desirable; ARM,CRM,CPCU,AIC, etc.
Strong technical insurance aptitude and sound financial skills to support decision making.
Must be organized, proactive and can execute with a high degree of independence.
Ability to manage multiple work tasks and be able to prioritize responsibilities.
Strong technology skills with ability to use advanced techniques in microsoft Office products, risk information management systems as well as Third Party Administrator's claim systems is required.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work across multiple levels of the organization.
Desire and drive to learn and take on growing responsibilities.
