The Bursar role is a senior leader in the Business and Financial Services division and reports directly to the University’s Controller. This position oversees the billing and collection of over $250M annually in student tuition and fee revenue and is directly responsible for managing student accounts, campus-based loan-processing, cash collection and management, as well as student and non-student accounts receivable functions. The role directly supervises a team of 13 personnel, 2 managers, and 8-10 students and serves as key thought partner in student account management and accounting policies and procedures at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Applicants for this position must have:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field
Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, and university financial policies and procedures.
Knowledge of accounting and accounts receivable principles, methodology, and practices.
Expertise in student information systems, preferably Oracle (Peoplesoft) and other related payment systems (CASHnet, etc).
Highly qualified candidates will also have:
At least seven (7) years of management experience in Accounts Receivable and/or Student Account Management, preferably in higher education sector in Bursar, Student Financial Services or Financial Aid divisions.
Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field
Experience in customer service and leveraging information technology.
Evidence of the ability to interpret and analyze financial data from accounting and student information systems.
Experience in process re-engineering, developing policy, and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Knowledge of cashiering and cash management principles, systems, procedures, and standards.
Evidence of the ability to develop and communicate ad-hoc analysis on a variety of data elements and issues.
