Appalachian State University is seeking to fill the position of Bookstore Director. The primary mission of the University Bookstore is to provide students and their families, faculty, staff, and alumni, with goods and services to support the educational goals of the institution. The Bookstore consists of 5 departmental areas of operation including a unique textbook department that includes a rental program which provides students textbooks at greatly reduced rates when compared to purchasing and other rental programs. It operates an apparel department consisting of Appalachian logoed clothing and gifts, a general merchandise department including a wide range of school supplies, a technology department selling Apple and PC computers, tablets, peripherals and supplies. It also operates the Scholars Bookshop which is a local general bookstore offering bestsellers, academic new releases, books by ASU faculty, regional and children's titles, and many other general books.
The Bookstore reports to the Auxiliary Services department, a division of Business Affairs within Appalachian State University.
5-7 years of retail management experience; academic retail preferred.
Master’s degree in business administration, public administration, marketing or related; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Communication and presentation skills. Strong analytical and financial acumen. Demonstrated ability to build a team and customer outreach.
