JCC Greater Boston (JCC), a forward thinking leader among Jewish Community Centers nationally, and one the largest Jewish organizations in New England, seeks a strategic and collaborative leader to serve as its Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO). JCC provides innovative programing and offers a wide range of services and program activities throughout the Greater Boston region including educational, cultural, social, Jewish identity-building and recreational programs for people of all ages and backgrounds.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an individual with proven leadership abilities and strong managerial, technical, planning, and communication skills to lead financial and administrative restructuring and to participate in shaping the future of an outstanding JCC poised for future growth. The CFAO will engage in complex work related to finance and operations and will see the impact of that work, both immediately and long-term, in the lives of staff, JCC members, and JCC families. The new CFAO will provide strategic financial and operational leadership that supports large-scale initiatives throughout the JCC, at its Newton, Massachusetts headquarters and “beyond the walls” in community embedded programs; the CFAO will serve as a strong partner to the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Strategic Program Officer, senior staff and board members.
The JCC movement was founded in 1917 to foster and develop the highest values of Jewish spiritual and cultural life through social, educational, benevolent and recreational activities. This JCC was founded in the 1940’s with roots in the earlier Settlement Houses and Young Men’s Hebrew Associations (YMHA) around Boston, and today is a vibrant, $23 million nonprofit organization serving 45,000 individuals annually in 98 communities throughout the region. JCC’s Newton headquarters, located on a 25 acre campus which abuts conversation land, is slated for a major renovation in 2018. The first phase is a $12 million project starting in April and to be completed in October. The re-imagined main campus will create innovative and adaptable learning and wellness spaces to meet the evolving needs of the community. The JCC is deeply committed to serving a community that is increasingly diverse, and to valuing and celebrating the uniqueness of every constituent. JCC Greater Boston’s current programs include four preschools, three day camps, an overnight camp in Maine, early parenting support, a fully equipped fitness and aquatics center, arts and culture classes, performances and lectures, and Jewish holiday celebrations.
Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the CFAO will partner closely with the Chief Strategic Program Officer (CSPO) to build a newly created and collaborative reporting structure to replace the prior organizational chart where all reporting lines rolled up through a Chief Operating Officer. Within this new strategic framework, the CFAO is responsible for creating a flexible and resilient operational infrastructure that supports innovation and sustainability across the four functional areas of facilities, finance, information technology, and people and culture (human resources), which includes 22 staff. The CFAO will play a key role in repositioning the organization by helping the JCC make highly strategic business decisions that will allow it to thrive in a rapidly evolving community and competitive landscape.
The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in broad financial and operational management gained through increasingly responsible roles in comparably complex settings. This experience will ideally include oversight of facilities, finance, human resources, and information technology. A master’s degree in business, finance or a related field is preferred. The CFAO will be an accessible and approachable colleague with integrity and credibility, who brings an unwavering commitment to collaboration, quality, and team work, as well as a dedication to the mission of the JCC.
