In collaboration with University research leadership, the Director of Sponsored Programs Financial Management will lead all aspects of the University's sponsored programs financial oversight operation. Responsibilities include enhancing and implementing sound internal controls at the University level, providing oversight and accountability for financial outcomes, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Financial Division of the Office of Sponsored Programs Administration. Duties also include liaising with other divisions both within the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Innovation (EVPRI) and across the University. S/he will have the unique opportunity to work with an inspiring collection of faculty researchers, clinician scientists, and staff members who are passionate about advancing research, healthcare, and other sponsored activities.
JOB DUTIES INCLUDE
Provide oversight and accountability for sponsored programs financial and compliance outcomes. Oversee account establishment, billing and collections, financial reporting, and closeout processes for all sponsored programs.
Provide strategic financial leadership and oversight of sponsored programs, including reviewing, updating, and/or developing internal controls. Develop and implement, in collaboration with research leadership, strategies to maximize benefit to University stakeholders. Prepare and recommend policies in consultation with appropriate University stakeholders that facilitate compliance on sponsored awards.
Serve as a leader and support University staff on financial related issues. Lead the day-to-day operations of the Sponsored Programs Finance Division, including supervision of permanent and temporary staff and provide training, coaching and career development to sponsored programs staff. Establish office priorities and procedures and foster a strong culture of customer service, compliance, and accountability. Must have recent experience (within the last 1-2 years) with staff management.
Serve as an authorized University signatory for sponsored programs.
Provide oversight on the use of financial and operational systems and expertise to help ensure that the University’s enterprise system is compliant with sponsored agreements and configured to optimize sponsored programs operations and to meet institutional goals.
Serve as the Sponsored Programs Administration point of contact in support of University financial reporting requirements and internal and external audits. Represent the University on sponsored programs financial matters to external partners and sponsors and at conferences/meetings (e.g., Council on Governmental Relations). Serve on University committees, including active involvement with the University’s service center committee.
Maintain an advanced knowledge and understanding of federal regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance) and cost accounting standards and advise research leadership on compliance issues and emerging trends that may affect the conduct of sponsored programs at the University. Must have recent experience with the operational implementation of the Uniform Guidance in a research-intensive institution.
Direct outreach for the Sponsored Programs Finance Division through lectures, workshops, events, and other mechanisms. Serve as a liaison with the University’s research community, providing financial guidance and establishing effective lines of communication with principal investigators and business managers.
Develop and deliver institutional and strategic metric reports in support of internal business decision making.
