The Insurance Specialist is responsible for obtaining pre-certification for all surgical procedures; including same day surgery, 23 hour observation and those requiring full admission post-surgery.
Additionally, the Insurance Specialist is responsible for obtaining prior authorization and / or pre-certification for minor surgical procedures performed within the office setting. The Insurance Specialist is also responsible for obtaining pre-certification for all ancillary procedures ordered.
The Insurance Specialist will also maintain a record of all testing ordered and will follow up for results to present to MD for review and signature prior to filing in medical record. Any procedure appointment that is missed will be brought to the attention of the nursing staff and /or physician.
The Insurance Specialist is responsible for communicating pre-certification information to the appropriate performing department prior to procedure date.
