The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, founded in 2006, has quickly become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. The only public graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S., it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism. As the profession rapidly reinvents itself for the digital age, the CUNY J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the tools to find stories and tell them effectively - using print, broadcast, visual, interactive, and social media. The School offers three master's degree programs: a Master of Arts in Journalism, the nation's first M.A. in Entrepreneurial Journalism and the nation's first M.A. in Social Journalism. In Fall 2016, it launched a unique Spanish-language program to train bilingual students interested in covering Hispanic communities in the U.S. and abroad.
The Graduate School of Journalism seeks a Finance Revenue Specialist to provide assistance in the overall financial operations of the School. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the incumbent will assist with tuition and other revenue accounting, reconcile tuition and fees and other accounts, and prepare monthly reports. This position will report to the Finance Budget Manager.
Duties include but are not limited to: - Manages student databases and resolves issues with student records and transactions. - Assists with tuition and fees analysis and student refund payments. - Reconciles student account balances and monitors accounts receivable collections. - Reconciles operating and other non-tax levy accounts. - Prepares, disseminates, and presents operating reports, financial statements, and financial analyses for management and various stakeholders. - Assists with financial audits and year end processes. - Ensures compliance with internal control policies and procedures for revenue and accounting.
CUNY Title Overview: - Coordinates financial matters for a program or department under management direction. - Maintains financial accounts for income and spending; administers the allocation of funds - Analyzes spending, income trends and usage to recommend improvements - Manages the collection of revenue and accounts receivable - Tracks and maintains financial data to provide fiscal reports to management; produces forecasting projections - Monitors the financial condition of operating centers to ensure efficient use of resources - Performs ad hoc reporting and analysis as necessary - May supervise subordinate staff - Performs related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.
A preferred candidate should have: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. - Knowledge of Finance Accounting Standards Board (FASB) & Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB). - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. - Experience using online ledger, financial systems and databases, specifically PeopleSoft financials and Fund Ez. - Experience in internal control audit. - Excellent oral, written, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills. - Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks. - Strong attention to details, be well-organized, and possess good decision making skills.
