The Lindner College of Business (LCB) is at an exciting inflection point on the path to preeminence. The Business Officer is an integral member of the Lindner College of Business’s (LCB) senior leadership team and acts as the Chief Financial Officer for LCB to direct and coordinate a broad range of business/fiscal activities and human resource functions to ensure effective operations and the achievement of organization objectives. The Business Officer leads the Business Affairs Office and reports directly to the Dean of LCB, serves on the Dean’s Executive Committee and has a dotted line reporting relationship to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Finance & Administration.
The Business Officer is responsible for all financial and human resource functions of the LCB. The financial structure of LCB is complex and includes management of general funds and designated gift funds as well as an array of endowment funds. Primary areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
Annual budget formulation and implementation
Monitoring all aspects of Performance Based Budgeting (PBB) process including forecasting
Advising the Dean regarding the availability of budget dollars to support new initiatives such as new faculty and staff positions
Providing insightful thought provoking observations/ideas in a coherent and compelling manner to constituents
Providing standard monthly reports comparing each unit’s actual expenditures to budget
Authorizing expenditures in consultation with Dean and administrative staff,
Overseeing funding and spending compliance for academic and administrative units including compliance with donor intent
Providing special reports and analysis to administrators (Dean, Associate Deans, Units Heads etc.) as requested
Assisting the Dean, other administrators and faculty in the development of revenue generating activities and cost saving initiatives
Developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure fiscal compliance with federal, state and UC policies and procedures
The mission of the Business Affairs office and the Business Officer is to gain recognition as the ‘trusted business advisor’ for their constituents.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor Degree with at least ten (10) years of experience required; Master’s degree preferred; Degree must be in Business Administration or related field. Minimum of three (3) years of supervision required.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those who hold an MBA (or higher) or a CPA/CMA with seven (7) years of experience at minimum; Expertise in financial planning, administrative and strategic planning of complex projects is highly desirable; Knowledge of university policies and procedures is highly desirable along with experience in university financial management.
