Nature and Purpose of Position: Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) assists departments in maintaining a safe and healthy university environment for staff, faculty, students and visitors. EHS provides training, monitoring, consultation, and various safety and health professional services that enhance instructional, research, and service goals of the University, as well as helping to ensure Lamar University abides by the EHS regulatory requirements established at the local, state and federal level.
Reporting to the Director of Environmental Health and Safety and Risk Management (Director) for Lamar University (University), the Risk Management and Occupational Safety Coordinator will be responsible for university occupational and safety training program, accident/incident reporting, and provide administrative support to the EHS & RM department.
Primary Responsibilities: The Risk Management & Occupational Safety Coordinator is responsible for such functions as but not necessarily limited to the following:
Assists Director with the investigating, documenting, and coordinating the reporting of university accidents/incidents.
Maintains a record of all injuries and accidents and ensures proper reporting with the claims coordinator.
Assists Director with documentation of insurance coverage for vehicles, property and other assets.
Coordinates both internal and external occupational and safety training for campus community and maintains proper tracking of training.
Provides clerical and administrative support to the EHS & RM office: answering phones, ordering office supplies, maintaining filing system, organizing meetings, supporting departments and committees with safety related issues, and maintaining communications with outside agencies.
May serve on EHS response team as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
Skills and Knowledge: Must possess a strong working knowledge of federal, state and local occupational health, safety and environmental regulations. Skilled in implementing and assessing occupational health and safety compliance programs. A strong focus on safety program implementation for diverse clients. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including training program delivery. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple assignments for different programs or units. Must be capable of wearing university-supplied negative pressure respiratory equipment or equivalent, walk up and down stairs, use ladders, or enter confined spaces.
Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelors degree in occupational safety, environmental science or related field or an equivalency of professional training, certifications and work experience. Minimum of 5 years of safety/EHS-related experience in industrial/institutional safety and environmental compliance.
Working Conditions/Work Schedule Typical schedule is M-F 8am-5pm; with some after-hours work during inclement weather, emergencies, or other University work curtailments or closures. This position supports essential functions of campus operations and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures. Work environment is varied and includes, but is not limited to work within laboratories, filed, office, hazardous waste storage facilities, and shops.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications Experience in commercial insurance. Additional Required Specifications Must have a valid Texas drivers license and motor vehicle driving record acceptable to the universitys insurance carrier.
