California College of the Arts (CCA), located in the San Francisco Bay Area, is seeking a Chief Financial Officer/ Senior Vice President, Finance & Administration (CFO). Currently with two campuses in Oakland and San Francisco, CCA is a leading art and design college renowned for its interdisciplinarity and breadth of programs and its commitment to students and faculty dedicated to making “art that matters.” The CFO position is a unique opportunity for an accomplished senior financial management executive with deep expertise in both strategy and operations to play a central role in ensuring the long-term growth and prosperity of one of the nation's premier arts institutions.
Established in 1907, CCA is home to a dynamic and energetic community of artists, architects, designers, writers, curators, and scholars. The college offers 34 programs in four disciplines: fine arts, architecture, design, and writing. CCA enrolls approximately 1,500 undergraduate and 450 graduate degree-seeking students, employs more than 500 faculty and 250 staff, and boasts more than 18,000 alumni.
CCA has ambitious and bold plans for the years ahead. The transition to a consolidated, single San Francisco campus has already begun and architectural and programmatic planning is well under way. The college is in the process of developing 2.5 acres of vacant land contiguous with its San Francisco campus, and has engaged both internal and external community partners in this work. In addition, CCA recently launched the silent phase of a capital campaign to support unification. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Chief Financial Officer will work closely with the president, the Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff, and will provide creative vision and collaborative management ensuring CCA's financial success and physical growth into the future.
The CFO is a member of CCA's senior cabinet and reports directly to the president. This individual will be a seasoned financial and administrative leader with a track record of success and an affinity and talent for collaboration. The next CFO must bring enthusiasm and capacity both to the task of developing and leading an intricate, service-intensive operation and the opportunity to play a strategic role in the advancement of the college's larger goals. To be successful, the CFO must address a number of key opportunities and challenges, including:
Creatively manage existing partnerships and structures through a dynamic period of change;
Establish and sustain effective processes and structures to steer CCA through campus unification and beyond;
Develop and motivate a talented team of professionals with a lens toward efficient and dedicated customer service;
Strategically partner with campus leaders to further CCA's goal of supporting a talented and diverse campus; and
Represent the financial interests and educational mission of CCA to both internal and external constituents.
