Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Associate Vice President and Deputy Chief Enterprise Risk Management, Ethics, and Compliance Officer for the Office of University Ethics and Compliance. The Associate Vice President and Deputy Chief Enterprise Risk Management, Ethics, and Compliance Officer ensures that Rutgers University and its academic and administrative units are able to comply and are in compliance with regulatory requirements and expectations and University policies and procedures.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides guidance for and ensures continuity among the ethics, investigative, compliance, and enterprise risk management activities of Rutgers University Ethics and Compliance.
Represents the Senior Vice President and UEC among the senior leadership of the University during the absence of or under the direction of the Senior Vice President.
Works with the Senior Vice President to direct the University's ethics, compliance, investigative, enterprise risk management, privacy, OPRA, and healthcare compliance activities.
Provides strategic and operational leadership to institutional compliance areas including research, Title IX, Athletics, and others, ensuring development and implementation of proactive efforts to guide appropriate behavior and practices, as well as mechanisms to investigate and address incidences of non-compliance.
Establishes relationships, systems, policies, and practices that can build upon and improve existing programs to implement a risk-based compliance program for Rutgers and that will enrich a culture of ethical and compliant behavior consistent with Rutgers' institutional obligations and expectations.
Ensures that the University's ethics and compliance program comprehensively addresses and rigorously adheres to all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements by building partnerships with academic and business unit senior leaders to facilitate resource-sharing, training and education, and consistent management of compliance and risk issues.
Fosters university-wide awareness of ethics and compliance, promoting and providing to the Rutgers community expertise, support, and tools to evaluate legal obligations, risk considerations, third party standards, and best practices.
Home Location Campus: Rutgers University-Newark
Advanced degree and/or professional certification in appropriate and relevant area preferred (e.g., CPA, MBA, JD, CFE, CCEP).
Experience working in a state or large local government agency.
Passion for developing a culture of compliance and ethical business practice within higher education.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Commitment to integrity, excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
Ability to work successfully in ambiguous and demanding situations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the higher education/ healthcare compliance and ERM environment.
Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment.
Ability to work with senior leaders to gain consensus on matters related to enterprise risk management, ethics, and compliance strategy, planning, implementation, and reporting.
Experience managing multiple confidential and sensitive activities in a complex environment.

This position will also have a New Brunswick office. It is split fairly evenly between RBHS-Newark and New Brunswick.
